Young Boy to Receive Extensive Surgical Rehabilitation

Rock’in Hearts Team of Philanthropists
Brings Young Boy from Lebanon to Los Angeles
for Extensive Surgical Rehabilitation

Los Angeles, Aug. 11, 2008 – ALO Magazine, through it’s Rock’in Hearts Program, is sponsoring a mission to bring a young boy, Hussein Balhas, and his mother from Lebanon to the United States for surgical rehabilitation. “Young Balhas” as he’s been affectionately nicknamed, suffers from many congenital anomalies to the face and body, and requires a series of corrective surgeries targeting eye lid and socket work, as well as complete facial reconstruction.

The logistics of this mission are being facilitated by Wafa Kanan, Publisher of ALO Magazine, America’s Top Middle Eastern Lifestyle Magazine. Kanan, who moved to LA from Lebanon in 1990, is a respected ambassador between these regions, and has been recognized on many levels for her outstanding philanthropic endeavors. Wafa was introduces to Young Balhas and his family while installing hearing aids through another campaign Kanan launched in Lebanon in 1996, and was moved by his determined spirit and simple heart. Wafa wrote to her team “I cannot express the joy and gratitude that you have all contributed to this amazing mission. Finally, our Lebanese child Balhas and his mother have been approved to be in the United States on September 18th.”

Dr. Babak Azizzadeh and Dr. Guy Massry, two prominent Beverly Hills facial surgeons, have assembled a team of highly skilled surgeons, and have committed to offer their services on a pro-bono basis. Preliminary approval has been received from Cedars Sinai and La Peer Surgical Center to cover all medical expenses for the child. Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) with the generous support of Steve Sosebee, has taken care of air travel for the boy and his mother with an estimated arrival date of Sept. 18th.

A series of at least three surgeries is needed to attain the best possible outcome, for a total physical and facial intervention of approximately 6 months. Initial tests and evaluations are needed upon the child’s arrival to confirm the child’s physical condition, and are mandatory before moving forward with surgical procedures.
