Public Health Professionals
New York, January 06, 2009 – Strategic Communication Resources is announcing an upcoming seminar and group discussion on Health Communication in the New Media Age: What Has Changed and What Should Not Change. The event will be held on January 13, 2009 from 6 – 7.30 pm at the Training Room of the Support Center for Nonprofit Management at 305 Seventh Avenue at 27th Street, 11th floor, New York, NY. Admission to the seminar is free of charge. The event is targeted only to non-profit health organizations, foundations, and other public health professionals. Those wishing to attend should call 212-590-2578 or email press.scr@gmail.com to register.
The seminar will provide an introduction as well as discussion points on the state of affairs of the use of new media channels in public health communications. It will also focus on emerging needs and observations that should be considered in developing social media/new media- based campaigns. “There is a lot of excitement in public health about the use of new media as part of health communication interventions,” says Renata Schiavo, PhD, MA, the event’s speaker and facilitator as well as and the Founder and Principal of Strategic Communication Resources. “Yet, as for other areas and channels of health communication, further attention should be placed on program evaluation, the potential task appropriateness of the media and channels being used, audience-specific needs, integration with other communication areas, channels and services, and other key factors that may contribute to the achievement of the behavioral and social behavior results to which all kinds of health communication interventions should aim. Our event reflects and seeks to stimulate discussion on some of these key factors.”
