Readings of the Lemon Tea screenplay to be performed on Chicago stage in February

Staged readings of the screenplay Lemon Tea will be presented by Chicago ScriptWorks on February 18 and February 22, 2009. Lemon Tea, which highlights a friendship between two young African-American girls, is under consideration to become a film which will elevate the quality standards of black films.
The award-winning screenplay Lemon Tea tells the story of a young girl, Libby, who is ashamed of her dark skin, but soon discovers that beauty comes in a myriad of shades, and furthermore, the beauty that lasts forever comes from the heart.
The Lemon Tea script, written by award-winning author, Marcia Sinclair, has received much acclaim for its funny, sometimes sad, heartwarming family story, with a message that transcends age, race or gender. Over the last fourteen years, the screenplay has won numerous awards including a semifinalist placement in the prestigious Nicholl screenwriting competition; winners in the Women in Film, CineStory, and the 2008 Illinois International Film Festival screenwriting competitions.
The staged readings will feature professional actors who will add voices to the rich characters in this heartwarming story. Performances are scheduled for: Wednesday, February 18, 7 p.m. and Sunday, February 22, 2 p.m. at Columbia College, Hokin Theater, 623 S. Wabash Ave., Chicago, Illinois.
